Student Guide to the Library: Lumberton Correctional Institute

Learn about the RCC Anne Moss-Biggs Library and the ins-and-outs of information literacy

LCI

Lumberton Correctional Institution houses medium custody adult male offenders. Offenders may be assigned to the prison as they are promoted from higher security prisons, demoted from lower security prisons, or assigned after processing.  The facility has a campus-style layout including seven buildings. There are six dormitories, a 20-cell segregation unit, administration building, vocational building and gatehouse.

Offenders work on Department of Transportation road squads and perform maintenance and kitchen duties in the prison. Robeson County Community College provides classes for basic education skills, preparation for the GED test and vocational classes in electrical wiring, carpentry, and heating and air conditioning repair.

Library Services

The Library provides LCI students access to learning resources so as to assist them in successfully completing their coursework. The College’s library staff can provide reference assistance, interlibrary loans, and access to reserve materials.  LCI students and/or LCI faculty fill out an LCI Academic Support Request Form from which the library team identifies books and/or articles to satisfy the research questions at hand.

As is the case for all patrons, books are loaned for a period of 3 weeks, and are eligible for renewal.  Materials are brought to the LCI by an RCC faculty member, who then returns the materials to the library.
