Early Childhood Education

Elementary School ClassroomThe Education Department Associate curriculum prepares individuals to work with children from infancy through middle childhood in diverse learning environments. Students will combine learned theories with practice in actual settings with young children under the supervision of qualified teachers.

Elementary education begins in prekindergarten or kindergarten and extends through 8th grade. In 2005, the average student/teacher ratio was 15.8, varying by the size of the elementary school, often with lower ratios in smaller schools. The elementary curriculum varies by state but generally includes mathematics, science, language arts, social studies,
